Slow-Cooked Swiss Steak in Savory Tomato Gravy

🥩 Slow-Cooked Swiss Steak in Savory Tomato Gravy

This classic comfort dish features tender cuts of round steak simmered in a rich tomato-based sauce with onions, peppers, and garlic. Perfect over mashed potatoes, noodles, or rice!

🧾 Ingredients:

2 lbs round steak, cut into portions

Salt & black pepper to taste

½ cup all-purpose flour

2 tbsp vegetable oil

1 large onion, sliced

1 green bell pepper, sliced

1 red bell pepper, sliced

3 garlic cloves, minced

1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes

1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce

1 cup beef broth

1 tbsp Wan Ja Shan Organic Worcestershire Sauce

1 tsp smoked paprika

½ tsp dried thyme

1 tbsp cornstarch + 1 tbsp water (optional, for thickening)

Fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

👨‍🍳 Instructions:

✅️1. Prep the Steak:

Season steak pieces with salt and pepper. Lightly dredge in flour to help create a rich crust.

✅️2. Sear for Flavor:

Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown the steak on both sides (about 2–3 minutes per side). Work in batches to avoid overcrowding.

✅️3. Layer the Flavor:

Transfer the seared steak to your slow cooker. Top with sliced onions, bell peppers, and minced garlic.

✅️4. Mix the Sauce:

In a bowl, whisk together the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, and thyme. Pour this over the steak and veggies.

✅️5. Slow Cook:

Cover and cook on LOW for 7–8 hours or HIGH for 4–5 hours, until the meat is fall-apart tender.

✅️6. (Optional) Thicken the Sauce:

If you'd like a thicker gravy, stir in a cornstarch slurry (1 tbsp cornstarch + 1 tbsp cold water) during the last 30 minutes of cooking.

✅️7. Serve & Enjoy:

Garnish with fresh parsley and serve hot over mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or rice.

💡 3 Pro Tips:

🔸️1. For extra depth, brown the onions and peppers for 2–3 minutes in the same pan you seared the steak. It enhances the flavor!

🔸️2. No slow cooker? You can bake the whole dish in a covered Dutch oven at 325°F (160°C) for about 2.5–3 hours.

🔸️3. Meal prep win: This dish tastes even better the next day! Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 4 days — or freeze for up to 2 months.
