Fried Cabbage with Bacon Onion and Garlic

Fried Cabbage with Bacon, Onion, and Garlic

A comforting, flavorful side dish that’s easy to make and packed with savory goodness.

👉Ingredients:

↪️1 small head of cabbage, chopped into bite-sized pieces

↪️4 to 6 slices of bacon, chopped

↪️1 medium onion, thinly sliced

↪️3 to 4 cloves of garlic, finely minced

↪️Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

👉Instructions:

✅️1. Cook the Bacon:

Place the chopped bacon in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the bacon turns golden and crispy. This should take about 6–8 minutes.

Once the bacon is cooked, use a slotted spoon to transfer it to a plate lined with paper towels. Leave the bacon drippings in the skillet — this will add great flavor to the dish.

✅️2. Sauté the Onion:

Add the sliced onion to the hot bacon grease in the skillet. Cook for about 4–5 minutes, or until the onion becomes soft and translucent, stirring occasionally so it doesn’t burn.

✅️3. Add the Garlic:

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for about 1 minute, just until fragrant. Be careful not to let the garlic burn, as it can turn bitter.

✅️4. Cook the Cabbage:

Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Stir everything well so the cabbage gets coated in the bacon fat and mixes with the onions and garlic.

✅️5. Let It Cook Down:

Cover the skillet partially with a lid and cook the cabbage for about 10–15 minutes, stirring every few minutes. Cook until the cabbage is tender and slightly caramelized. You can cook it longer if you prefer it softer or leave it a bit crisp if that’s your preference.

✅️6. Add the Bacon Back In:

Once the cabbage is cooked to your liking, return the crispy bacon to the skillet. Stir everything together so the flavors combine. Let it warm through for a minute or two.

✅️7. Serve:

Serve hot as a side dish or even as a main meal with some crusty bread or over rice. It’s savory, satisfying, and full of flavor!
