🔸️1 cup buttermilk
🔸️1 cup all-purpose flour
🔸️1 tsp garlic powder
🔸️1 tsp onion powder
🔸️1 tsp paprika
🔸️1 tsp salt
🔸️1/2 tsp black pepper
🔸️1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
🔸️1 cup vegetable oil (for frying)
✅️For the Mac and Cheese:
🔸️8 oz elbow macaroni (or any pasta you like)
🔸️2 tbsp butter
🔸️2 tbsp all-purpose flour
🔸️2 cups whole milk
🔸️2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
🔸️1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
🔸️Salt and pepper to taste
🔸️1/4 tsp garlic powder
🔸️1/4 tsp paprika (optional)
🔸️1/4 cup breadcrumbs (optional, for topping)
👉Instructions:
✅️1. Make the Fried Chicken:
◾️Marinate the chicken: Soak the chicken in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes, or overnight in the fridge for more flavor.
◾️Season the flour: In a bowl, mix the flour with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, pepper, and cayenne if using.
◾️Coat the chicken: Remove the chicken from the buttermilk and coat each piece in the seasoned flour. Shake off extra flour.
◾️Fry the chicken: Heat the oil in a deep pan over medium-high heat. Fry the chicken for 10–12 minutes per side, until golden and fully cooked (165°F/74°C inside). Drain on paper towels.
▶️2. Make the Mac and Cheese:
◾️Cook the pasta: Boil the macaroni as directed on the package. Drain and set aside.
◾️Make the cheese sauce: In a pot, melt the butter, then whisk in the flour. Cook for 1–2 minutes. Slowly add milk while whisking until the sauce thickens (about 5–7 minutes).
◾️Add cheese and seasoning: Lower the heat. Stir in cheddar and Parmesan until melted and smooth. Add salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika to taste.
◾️Mix with pasta: Add the cooked pasta and stir well to coat.
◾️Optional crispy topping: Sprinkle breadcrumbs on top and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10–15 minutes if you want a golden crust.
▶️3. Serve and Enjoy:
Plate your crispy fried chicken next to the creamy mac and cheese. A perfect Southern comfort meal!
